About the book

Meet the Frugalwoods: Achieving Financial Independence Through Simple Living is the personal story of author Elizabeth Willard Thames, her husband Nate, and their daughter as they give up material things and transition to a life of frugality. The book follows the story of the Thames family as they give up their city life and move into a homestead in the woods of Vermont.

Initially written by Elizabeth through blog posts, this book tells about two young professionals, Elizabeth and Nate, lead their 9-5 young urban professional lives until they achieved their dream of living in a modern homestead in rural Vermont. They reached this goal by saving a huge amount of money, equaling seventy percent of their combined take-home pay. Elizabeth documented their unconventional lifestyle of frugality—dubbing themselves the Frugalwoods—to completely shifting their lifestyle and until they retired at their homestead in Vermont at the age of thirty-two, all in three years.
